Safety
In 1995 CE regulations were established for the manufacture of tail lifts. CE stands for 'Conformité Européenne' and is a conformity marking. The label indicates that the manufacturer or importer declares that the products which carry the label meet the requirements in European directives (EC directives) that apply to these products.
General requirements EU machinery directive
The content of this European directive pertains to legal requirements in the areas of safety, health, and environmental impact. Tail lifts are subject to the general requirements of the EU machinery directive. The LPK inspection is an annual check to verify the safety aspects of the tail lift required by the CE requirements. TÜV regulations are mandatory in Germany, but not in the rest of Europe.
Important CE requirements for tail lifts
- Sharp edges and corners that can cause injuries must be protected, at least 'to the extent their function allows.'
- Signals must be clear and visible.
- Annual tail lift inspection.
